No. 4 Gaston College reaches double figures again to extend winning streak
No. 4 Gaston College's baseball offense stayed hot as it rolled to a 15-6, 8-innings victory at Surry Community College on Tuesday.
The Rhinos improved to 43-3 overall with their ninth straight victory.
Gaston College fell behind 3-1 after one inning before its offense roared to a 12-3 advantage after the top of the third inning.
The Rhinos' double digit scoring effort was their 35th in in 46 games this season.
On Tuesday afternoon, Caden Davidson (3 hits, home run, 5 RBIs), Logan Ponnett (2 hits, double, 3 RBIs), Joey Nicholson (2 hits, home run, 3 RBIs), Kandan Zollo (2 hits) and Koy Swanson (home run, 3 RBIs) led an offense that had 12 hits and drew 11 walks.
"We took what they gave us and they walked a few guys," Gaston College coach Shohn Doty said.
Five pitchers saw action on the mound with reliever Gavin Aldredge picking up the victory after two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Gaston College returns to action with its final Region 10 road series this weekend at USC Salkehatchie for a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader and a 1 p.m. single game.
The Rhinos then close their regular season with non-league home games against Caldwell Tech (April 21 at 1 p.m.) and Rockingham Community College (April 28 at 3 p.m.) wrapped around their Region 10 series finale against USC Lancaster (April 25 1 p.m. doubleheader and April 26 1 p.m. single game).
"The goal is to get everybody going, healthy and feeling good about themselves as we wind the regular season down," Doty said. "We want to definitely try and finish up strong."
